As a Columbus Ohio Family Photographer, I have to admit, I love when my clients are just as detail-oriented as I am!
This multi-generational family photo shoot at the Whetstone Park of Roses was created for the Hamilton Family. Who I absolutely adore! Sue, the Grandmother and matriarch of the family reached out to me set up this fun family session. We had multiple chats to prepare, and I love this for a few reasons! Firstly, I always welcome my client’s questions. Answering their questions ahead of their photo shoot helps me ensure their images are exactly what they’ve always dreamed of. Secondly, having an open dialogue helps put us both on the exact same page before we work together. This is especially important when planning something like a multi-generational family photoshoot. There are typically a variety of different groupings to capture. But most of all, it also prepares me to work with your family’s littlest members!
The youngest member of the Hamilton family is just 2.5 years old. But, I have to admit, he was not exactly sure about having his photo taken. No worries, this is totally standard for growing adventurous toddles! After all, they have lots of questions and curiosities about the world. Talking with Sue beforehand helped me come up with a plan to make sure everything went smoothly. I knew that keeping the session moving along with patience, ease, and the ability to be flexible would be key to making it work for everyone.
I know that it can sometimes be a stressor for parents to see that their children don’t exactly want to sit, smile, pose, and repeat. This is something I encounter all too often, especially with littles. After all, when you think about it from their perspective; it can be a little overwhelming to have a stranger pointing a camera at you while trying to make you smile. I totally get it! So I am there for my parents just as much as the littles. I can sense when parents begin to feel that stress during a session. Children are only so small for what feels like such a fleeting moment, and parents want to be able to create memories of those tender ages to look back on for a lifetime.
If by chance I sense that parents are beginning to worry, I like to talk to them about what the options are for their photos during post-processing. Photoshop, head-swapping, you name it! I have mastered these skills so parents can have that perfect portrait, in any situation! All in all, I am so so grateful to the Hamilton family for trusting me to capture their special moments on that gorgeous afternoon at the Whetstone Park of Roses. They are a kind, loving family, and they make my job as Columbus Ohio Family Photographer so rewarding! Scroll through the photos below to see more of their family photo shoot.
