These Mommy and Me Family Photos at Inniswood Metro Gardens with Kalya (mama) and little Kenzie, were the absolute sweetest!!
I immediately connected with Kayla over our healthcare career backgrounds. Kalya is a nurse and I am a former occupational therapist assistant. I love having the ability to connect with my clients over shared experiences! I find that it makes their session so much more fun. And, ultimately, it brings us closer together. Thus removing any of those awkward “in front of the camera” jitters that you might have!
For Kayla and Kenzie’s mommy & me family photos, we walked around Inniswood Metro Gardens, exploring everything in our path! I made sure that we stayed active throughout the entire shoot. My approach to sessions with littles under the age of 5 is to keep it fast-paced and steadily moving. Forcing an active child to pose for a photo, will never produce the result that you are looking for in your portraits.
However, keeping children engaged is key! During this shoot, we walked from spot to spot to maintain the level of excitement for Kenzie! In this case, it was not difficult to find things all around us to explore. This resulted in the gorgeous photo of Kenzie stopping to smell a tulip during the shoot. Some of my favorite less posed, more candid photos, always happen in nature. Maybe it’s the magic of having a natural surrounding as your backdrop, or maybe it’s the sense of adventure it brings out in children. Either way, I love it!

I also love that my clients take the opportunity to use my family sessions to highlight the special relationship they have with their children.
