Planning a family photoshoot with a Columbus Ohio Family Photographer? Here are 5 important things you need to know about the investment in professional photography!
As a Columbus Ohio Family photographer, working with children and families is such a rewarding experience for me. When people grow and change or ultimately when our nest is left empty, our photos are the only physical reminders of our children’s time spent nurtured in our presence.
In 2018 I was gifted my first DSLR camera and I began taking pictures of anything and anyone who would put up with my camera in their face. I was absolutely hooked on capturing the true essence and beauty of people with my lens. I started organically offering photography sessions for friends, and the rest is history!
While I now count my profession as being a photographer, at the core, I’m a memory maker who steals moments and freezes them in time. With that said, here are 5 important factors you need to know when booking a family photoshoot with a Columbus Ohio Family Photographer!
Hey moms, how many family photos do you have where you are actually in the picture? It’s almost impossible to capture a precious family memory on your own simply because you won’t be in the photo! This is one of the biggest reasons clients come to me for a family photoshoot. I’ve spoken with countless parents who have expressed that they don’t actually have any photos of the entire family together because they were always the ones always snapping the photo.
My approach to family photography is to bring out all those real moments of you with your littles. The little tickles that get your child to giggle in a way that’s completely infectious. The playfulness and wonder in their eyes when taking in the adventure all around them. The smile you produce from ear to ear every time you talk about how you and your spouse met. And the raucous laughter that a family produces when recalling some of their best “remember when” conversations. Those real, natural, candid moments are so deeply embedded in the heart of your family. Will we still work together on posed photos? Absolutely! But above all else, I want you to see what I see when I capture the true essence of you and your family exactly as you are.
There’s nothing that quite compares to having a professional photoshoot with a seasoned photographer! If your goal is to have frame-worthy photos to hang in your home, gorgeous albums to flip through as your family grows and transitions, or amazing gifts for the grandparents each year at Christmas – that include the entire family, then scheduling a professional photoshoot is the way to go! And yes, my clients can order printed products through me! I have a variety of timeless products available for purchase. You can find more information about prints here.
Smartphone cameras are decent, but they’re no match for having professional photos taken of you and your family. The thing about having your family portraits taken by a professional family photographer is that you get the benefits of an experienced, artistic eye! For example, did you know that choosing the best location to shoot your portraits is more than just scenery? It’s true! When scouting a location I also have to find the best location, with the best light!
I have extensive experience and education on how to choose the best portrait locations based on proper light. I understand how lighting impacts your location and ultimately your photos. Having proper lighting is actually one of the biggest outside factors that can impact capturing beautiful photos. But really, that is just one piece of the puzzle when we are talking about capturing beautiful memories for you and your family to cherish for a lifetime!
Another thing that I do as your family photographer, is to help you find poses that are flattering for you. Ones that will make you feel comfortable, at ease, and confident. Because once you feel amazing and confident, it shines through in your photos! My goal when working with you and your family is to use my experience and expertise to ensure that you are 100% elated when your photos arrive.
I also love giving my clients resources and tips on what color attire works best in front of the camera. Those cute matchy-looking family outfits that you’ve been scouring on Pinterest? I can tell you how to put an ensemble together for your entire family, with ease!
As a mom, I know that the idea of having our photo taken, or wrangling family outfits (see above), or kids for that matter, may not seem like a fun relaxing experience. But I believe can be and should be! Working with a professional family photographer to capture the magic actually takes the stress off your plate and allows you to focus on your family. Thus allowing a bonding experience that you will never forget!
Client experience is a big cornerstone of my brand. I am very passionate about how my clients experience their family photoshoots from beginning to end. This happens by making sure that clear communication and organization are top priorities for our time together. I typically have my assistant join me during photoshoots. This allows us to help direct my families to our photoshoot location and make sure you have everything you need. But, rest assured that we won’t start shooting until you feel present and comfortable! I love getting to know my clients on a personal level so that your session feels just like hanging out with an old friend.
My journey as a professional family photographer has also provided me with the experience of working with children of all ages. I pride myself on the ability to welcome each child as an individual and respect their comfort zone during our time together. This allows their unique personality to take center stage, giving you a front-row seat to soaking up their dynamic characteristics! It’s amazing how allowing your children to play, explore and be adventurous during our session can bring out their joy and beaming smiles. Aren’t those the moments we all live for?
I’m sure if you’re a parent of littles, like me, then you’ll agree that “the days are long but the years are short”. It almost feels like time is laughing in our faces during the sweetest moments of our as we try to soak up every precious moment of raising our children. Sometimes we wish we could freeze the time when tiny eyes grow heavy with sleep as they are pressed against our chest. Or, replay the giggles that come from a bathtub overflowing with bubbles. You don’t have to worry that these precious moments are passing you by when you can relive the feeling of them through your family photos.
Let’s face it, as parents we are busy! Whether it’s shuttling from one activity to the next, trying to plan healthy weeknight meals, or just the typical hustle and bustle of everyday life. All while attempting to be fully present. So we don’t always necessarily remember to pull out our phone or camera to capture the moment as it unfolds in front of us.
And think back if you can over the last 2 years for a moment. You may not see it in the noise of everyday life, but how much have your children grown and changed? This example is one of the reasons I always recommend my clients work with me on at least an annual basis! Stop worrying about those precious memories passing you by and capture them as they unfold instead.
Ok, so maybe your parents weren’t so great at making sure that they captured every milestone of your childhood. Let’s be honest here, in times past, there weren’t very many options for professional photography to make its way into our lives. Sure we had school pictures once a year. Which, depending on what time of the day you were scheduled for, could’ve been a disaster. Photos that were taken after lunch or recess? No thanks! Or, there was the Sears portrait studio and Glamor Shots. Remember those? Very retro! Those photos usually make their way out of a box during family gatherings for a good-natured laugh. We did the best with what we could at the time. And mostly, everybody ended up looking the same in their photos. Those situations with professional photography were not personalized or unique to your beautiful family.
But now that we know better (thank you technology!) we can do better! Wouldn’t it be great if the gorgeous yearly family photos that include aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins, all started with you? What a beautiful way to build a legacy for your family and your children. Sounds pretty amazing right?
